CTA Metra blue-04 Bus blue-03Evanston is served by three public transit agencies that can help you get to and around the city. These agencies include Metra, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), and Pace.

Metra Train

Metra is the commuter rail system that serves the greater Chicago area. The Union Pacific North Line (UP-N), which connects Chicago's northern suburbs to downtown Chicago, has stops at Main, Davis, and Central in Evanston. For more information, see the UP-N Schedule & Map, and Metra's System Map.

CTA Trains & Buses

Evanston is served by the CTA's Purple Line "L" train from early morning to late evening. The Purple Line makes the following stops in Evanston: Central, Noyes, Foster, Davis, Dempster, Main, and South Boulevard. During the AM and PM rush periods, the Purple Line runs express to and from Chicago's Loop. For more information, see Purple Line hours of operation and route diagram, or check out CTA's System Map.

CTA also operates several bus routes in Evanston. Routes with stops in Evanston include:

    1. Route 93 - California/Dodge (Schedule & Map)

      • Points of interest: CTA Kimball station to connect to brown line trains, North Park College, Swedish Covenant Hospital, Evanston Township High School, Downtown Evanston.

    2. Route 97 - Skokie (Schedule & Map)

      • Points of interest: CTA Howard station, Downtown Skokie, Westfield Old Orchard Mall.

    3. Route 201 - Central/Ridge (Schedule & Map)

      • Points of interest: CTA Howard station to connect with red/purple/yellow line trains, Downtown Evanston, Northwestern University, Evanston Hospital, CTA and Metra Central station, Ryan Field, Westfield Old Orchard Mall.

    4.  Route 206 - Evanston Circulator (Schedule & Map)

      • Points of interest: CTA Howard station, Evanston Township High School, Metra Central Station.

Pace Buses

Pace is the suburban bus system serving Chicago's surrounding cities, including Evanston. Pace routes in Evanston include:

    1. Route 208 - Golf Road (Schedule  & Map)

      • Points of interest: Downtown Evanston, Evanston Township High School, Westfield Old Orchard Mall, Golf Mill Shopping Center, Metra Cumberland and Des Plaines stations to connect to Union Pacific Northwest trains, Woodfield Mall.

    2. Route 213 - Green Bay Road (Schedule & Map)

      • Points of interest: CTA Howard station, Downtown Evanston, Evanston Township High School, Chicago Botanic Garden, Crossroads Shopping Center, Metra Highland Park station to connect to Union Pacific North trains

    3. Route 215 - Crawford/Howard (Schedule & Map)

      • Points of interest: CTA Howard station, Rush North Shore Medical Center, Westfield Old Orchard Mall.

    4. Route 250 - Dempster Street ( Schedule & Map)

      • Points of interest: Downtown Evanston, CTA Dempster-Skokie station to connect to  yellow line trains, Lutheran General Hospital, Metra Des Plaines station to connect to Union Pacific Northwest trains, O'Hare airport.

    5. Route 422  - Linden CTA/Glenview/Northbrook Court (Schedule & Map)

      • One service from Howard CTA station at 2:06 am. Operates via Hermitage, Howard, Chicago, Greenwood, Sherman/Orrington, Clark and Benson, arriving at Davis station at 2:12 am, Church/McCormick at 2:17 am and Glenview/Waukegan at 2:32 am.
